Not only beautiful, but also exceptionally comfortable to hold. Ruyao is one of the famous ceramic types of the Song dynasty, produced exclusively in the imperial kilns of Ru County in Henan. Its hallmark is the remarkably even distribution of a thick glaze over a greyish or light brown clay body, preserving the vessel’s original shape and resulting in a more refined, well-formed piece. Depending on the metal oxides added, the glaze ranges from pale blue-grey to lichen green, with a soft, silky texture. The cup’s orange rim beautifully highlights the color of red teas or shu puer poured into it.
